Ampliform Products

The 'AMPLIFORM' process consists of slotting and stretching an aluminium extrusion. Three different product types are manufactured by us:
 
  • Mesh
  • Flooring
  • Beams
 
Only the fast moving products are kept in stock and only at predetermined levels. The full range of products are available ex the mill and the delivery time is dependent on the mill.
Product is held in stock as mill finished but may be anodized or powder coated as necessary. We carry the stock in full panels but will cut to particular size on request.
A cutting charge is levied.

Expanded Aluminium Mesh

'Amplimesh' is the trade name of our expanded aluminium mesh. The product is created by taking a standard aluminium extrusion (alloy 6063) and firstly placing slots in it in alternate positions to create a pattern. The extrusion is then stretched wider to open up the slots. At the same time the length of the slots decreases. We have a wide variety of extrusions to produce the variety of mesh available. As a standard we stretch the mesh to standard widths with a tolerance of +/-5mm (this is due to the tensile variation in the extrusions). The finished length is determined by the ordered length of extrusion.

Amplimesh can be applied to any typical mesh application. A key to the successful use of the products is the correct installation. A range of surrounds is available to ensure the Amplimesh is fitted correctly for the various applications. Our technical team is available for free advice.

Expanded Aluminium Structural Beams

'Amplibeam' is the trade name of our expanded aluminium structural beam. The product is created by taking a standard aluminium extrusion (alloy 6063) and firstly placing slots in it in alternate positions to create a pattern. The extrusion is then stretched wider to open up the slots. At the same time the length of the slots decreases. We have 3 standard extrusions to produce 3 different beams with a width tolerance of +/-2mm (this is due to the tensile variation in the extrusions). The finished length is determined by the ordered length of extrusion. Our standard length is 6m.

1) Beams are intended as arch members subjected to axial thrust and end moments.

2) ALB 475 only, is not suitable for use as a free spanning beam.

Section properties were calculated using both computer software and laboratory tests. The investigations were carried out by the following :

  • Stewart Scott Consulting Engineers
  • Middleton Associates, Consulting Engineers
  • University of Natal, South Africa

Copies of reports are available from the company on request. All designs of a structural nature need to be carried out by Structural Engineers to comply with local by-laws.

Various complimentary sections are available to effect full strength joints and effective designs.

Expanded Aluminium Flooring

The product is created by taking a standard aluminium extrusion (alloy 6063) and firstly placing slots in it in alternate positions to create a pattern. The extrusion is then stretched wider to open up the slots. At the same time the length of the slots decreases. As a standard we stretch the grating to 600mm wide with tolerance of +/-5mm (this is due to the tensile variation in the extrusions). The finished length is determined by the ordered length of extrusion. Our standard length is 6m.

We are able to supply variations in width and length for special requirements. For smaller sizes we would simply cut our standard product to suit but for bigger sizes (wider, up to 650mm or longer, up to 8m), we would need to ensure that 1) the quantity is sufficient to enable us to place a mill order and 2) the time period it is required in falls within the mill delivery period.
